McKenzie Softball Tops McEwen

The Lady Rebels defeated the McEwen Lady Warriors 8-0. The Lady Rebels scored three runs in the first inning to take a quick lead, then added to the lead in the fifth and sixth.

The Lady Rebels were led in hits by Payton Ognibene and Haylee Beard who had three each. Briley Auvenshine accounted for three RBIs. Kassidy Brown had two and Beard had one.

McKenzie held the Lady Warriors to one hit in the first inning. With Ognibene on the mound, the Lady Rebels had three quick putouts.

The Lady Rebels started off the game with hot bats. Katie Chesser had a single. Auvenshine followed her with a double. Kassidy Brown doubled to center field to score Chesser and Auvenshine. Beard singled to right field to score Brown. The Rebels led 3-0 going into the second inning.

DJ Hankins had the only hit for the Warriors in the top of the second but was stranded at third base as the inning came to a close.

The Lady Rebels were held scoreless until the fifth inning. Chesser took one for the team. Auvenshine stepped into the box and ripped the ball over the left-center fence for a two-run home run. Aubrey Jackson stepped up to the dish with bases loaded. Jackson hit a single to right field and reached second on an error. Ognibene and Beard scored on the same error. The Lady Rebels led led 7-0 at the end of the fifth inning.

The Lady Rebels held the Lady Warriors to just one hit by Amberlee Hankins during the final two innings. Briley Auvenshine toed the rubber for the Lady Rebels and had two strikeouts in the last two innings.

The Lady Rebels scored their last run during the sixth inning. Chesser singled to right field then reached third base on an error. Auvenshine hit a sacrifice fly to the shortstop to score Chesser. McKenzie topped McEwen 8-0.

The Lady Rebels had a total of 12 hits recording one home run, four doubles and seven singles. On the rubber, Ognibene had three strikeouts and allowed three hits. Auvenshine had two strikeouts and one walk.

The Lady Rebels host the Houston County Fighting Irish Friday, April 28. Game time is 5 p.m.
