McKenzie Splits Wins with Bradford

McKENZIE (December 14) — McKenzie High School hosted Bradford Monday for a pair of non-district basketball contests. The Lady Rebels were dominant in a 62-31 victory over the Lady Red Devils, while the Rebels played a tight game before falling to the Red Devils 59-52.

The Lady Rebels stormed out to a 20-7 lead after the opening frame, led by Savannah Davis with six points. Lilly Bennett and Anna Callahan each scored four, and Briley Auvenshine and MiKaela Reynolds each hit a three-pointer. Lady Red Devil Rebecca Walter scored four points, and Annalee Bratton hit a three.
McKenzie widened the gap with a 27-4 advantage in the second quarter, led by Katie Chesser, Savannah Nesbitt and Kyeana Sneed with six points each, Chesser with a three. M. Reynolds also hit a three, and Bennett, Callahan and Kylie Reynolds each had a pair. Walter scored three points for Bradford, and Abby Dunn hit a free throw. At the half, McKenzie led 47-11.
The Lady Rebels had a 13-12 edge in the third, led by Auvenshine with three points. Sneed, Davis, K. Reynolds, Bennett and Callahan each added a pair. Walter led the Lady Red Devils with nine points, and Macy Johnstone hit a three. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 60-23.
Bradford cut the final deficit with an 8-2 tilt in the fourth. Dunn hit a three-pointer, and Bratton also scored three points. Walter added a pair. Hannah Dillingham had a pair for McKenzie.
Lady Red Devil Rebecca Walter led all scorers with 18 points.

McKenzie had ten players with points, led by Kyeana Sneed, Savannah Davis, Lilly Bennett and Anna Callahan with eight each.
Red Devils 59, Rebels 52
The nightcap was tied at 11-11 after the first frame. Red Devil Cameron Oglesby led the scoring with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Kameron Gueary had a pair, and Jordan Ledbetter hit a free throw. Rebel Johnathan Moore hit a three, and Bryson Steele, Marquez Taylor, Zayden McCaslin and Caleb Gill each had a pair.
McKenzie took the lead with an 18-17 edge in the second quarter, led by Eli Surber with nine points on a trio of threes. McCaslin scored seven, and Gill added a pair. Tevin Schoonover led Bradford with seven points, including a three-pointer. Gueary scored five with a three. Ledbetter and Jayden Street each had a pair, and Will Taylor hit a free throw. At the half, the Rebels led 29-28.
The Red Devils overtook McKenzie with an 18-10 advantage in the third, led by Gueary with seven points, including a three. Oglesby scored six on a pair of threes, Schoonover had three points, and Spencer Siddell had a pair. Taylor and McCaslin each scored five for the Rebels, Taylor with a three-pointer. Heading into the final frame, Bradford led 46-39.
The fourth was a 13-13 wash. Gill led McKenzie with six points, including a three. Surber also hit a three, and Steele and Taylor each added a pair. Schoonover led the Red Devils with six points. Gueary scored four, Oglesby added a pair, and Ledbetter hit a freebie.
Bradford’s Kameron Gueary led all scorers with 16 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Cameron Oglesby and Tevin Schoonover each scored 16, Oglesby with four threes and Schoonover with one.
Zayden McCaslin led the Rebels with 14 points. Eli Surber scored a dozen on four three-pointers, and Caleb Gill had ten with a three.
