McKenzie Splits with Westview

McKENZIE (December 10) — McKenzie High School hosted Westview Tuesday for a pair of non-district basketball contests. The Lady Chargers took an early lead, but the Lady Rebels kept pace for most of the game to keep it close until Westview pulled away late for a 46-30 win. The Rebels struggled early, but dominated the second quarter and didn’t look back for a 68-44 win.

The Lady Chargers jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the opening frame, led by Avery Leyhue with seven points, including a pair of three-pointers. Jada Harrison scored five with a three, and Emerson Leyhue had a pair. Anna Callahan led McKenzie with four points, Dani Dyer had a pair, and Shelby Davis hit a free throw.
The second quarter was a defensive bout resulting in a 3-3 wash. Lady Charger Tiara Yancey hit a three, and Davis scored three points for the Lady Rebels. At the half, Westview led 17-10.
The teams were also even in the third, 11-11. Lady Rebel Lilly Bennett led with seven points. Dyer and Davis each added a pair. Harrison led the Lady Chargers with five, including a three-pointer. A. Leyhue also hit a three, E. Leyhue added a pair, and Angelina Barr hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, the Lady Chargers led 28-21.
Westview doubled up McKenzie 18-9 in the fourth to seal the win, led by A. Leyhue and Barr with six points each, Leyhue on a pair of threes. E. Leyhue and Harrison each hit a three. Callahan led the Lady Rebels with three points. Bennett, Savannah Nesbitt and Kylie Reynolds each had a pair.
Lady Charger Avery Leyhue led all scorers with 16 points, including five three-pointers. Jada Harrison scored 13 with a trio of threes.

Lilly Bennett led McKenzie with nine points.
Rebels 68, Chargers 44
Westview had an 11-10 edge after the first frame, led by Russ Butler with seven points, including a three. Jaden Ware and Jalen King each had a pair. Lucas King led McKenzie with six points. Lane Horton and Caleb Gill each had a pair.
The Rebels went up big with a 26-7 advantage in the second quarter, led by Micah Austin with eight points, including a pair of threes. Nate Whitsell scored six on a pair of threes, and Lazarick hill had five points, also with a three. Witt Mitchum scored four, and King hit a three. Ware hit a three for the Chargers, and Quincy Allen and Ty Simpson each had a pair. At the half, the Rebels led 36-18.
McKenzie added to the lead with a 12-10 tilt in the third, led by Hill with six points. Horton, Whitsell and Mitchum each added a pair. Allen led Westview with six on a pair of threes, and Simpson and Garner Anderson each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 48-28.
The Rebels outscored the Chargers 20-16 in the fourth to cap the win, led by Austin with six on a pair of threes. Hill, Whitsell and Mitchum each scored four, and Evan Jarrett had a pair. Allen led Westview with five points, including a three. Houston Baker hit a three, and Butler also scored three points. Ware and Anderson each added a pair, and Marquez Taylor hit a free throw.
Rebel Lazarick Hill led all scorers with 15 points, including a three-pointer. Micah Austin scored 14 with four threes, and Nate Whitsell had a dozen with a pair of threes. Witt Mitchum scored ten, and Lucas King had nine points with a three.
Quincy Allen led the Chargers with 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Russ Butler scored ten with a three.
