McKenzie Squeezes Past Greenfield

McKENZIE (December 6) — McKenzie Lady Rebels and McKenzie Rebels squeezed victories over neighboring Greenfield in a Class 1A match on Tuesday, December 6 at McKenzie High School.
 
The defending state champion Lady Rebels, who were without the service of Miss Basketball, Savannah Davis, took some time to get its footing in the game against a very good team in the Lady Yellowjackets. 
 
The Lady Rebels scored 20, 9, 14, and 26 in the respective quarters for a total of 69 points. 
 
Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets scored 11, 25, 8, and 10 in the respective quarters for a total of 54 points. Greenfield led at the half 36 to 29 but fell to strong scoring in the third and fourth quarter by the Lady Rebels.
 
For McKenzie, Katie Chesser that 2 points in the first and third quarters and 3 in the fourth for a total of 7 points. Briley Auvenshine had 1 point in the third and 13 in the fourth including two three-pointers for a total of 14.
 
It was sisters Mikaela Reynolds and Kyle Reynold who were the two high-scorers on the evening. Kylie had 30 total points and Mikaela had 15. Kylie had 3 three-pointers, 9 field goals and 3 free throws. Mikaela had 7 field goals, and one free throw. The Lady Rebels had an uncharacteristically low percentage of successful free throws at 60 percent. McKenzie committed 17 team fouls. 
 
Greenfield had a total of 54 points led by Stormie Ricketts with 12, Emma Grace Alfred with Emma Grace Alfred with 14, Brently Little with 11 and Jayleigh Bowers with 11, Anastyn Vujici with 4, and Halli Williams with 2. Greenfield committed  13 team fouls.
 
In the nightcap, the penalty whistles blew 34 times with McKenzie receiving 18 and Greenfield receiving 16 for the boys’ contest. McKenzie Rebels were assessed two technicals during the evening.
 
It was McKenzie Rebels’ first game of the season because many on the team members played on the championship McKenzie Rebels football team that finished the gridiron season on December 2.
 
McKenzie scored 20, 18, 2 and 19 points in the respective quarters for a total of 59 points. 
 
Greenfield scored 12, 20, 8 and 14 in the respective quarters. The Rebels and Yellowjackets were tied at 40 at the end of the third quarter. An explosive fourth quarter for the Rebels sealed the win.
 
Zach Aird had 6 points on two three-pointers; Bryson Steele led the team with 18 points with 12 points in the fourth quarter; Marquez Taylor had 10; Tate Surber had 11, include a three-pointer; Carter Kee had 8, including 2 three-pointers; Stafford Roditis had five, including a three-pointer; and Zay Webber had 1 point.
 
The Rebels hit 3 of 10 free throws for 30 percent.
 
Greenfield Yellowjackets were led by Barkley Biggs with 21 points including 3 three-pointers; Matt Scates had 12, including 2 3-pointers; Carsen Wills had 7; John Featherston had 7, including a three-pointer; Kirx Bowers had 4, and Jackson Dunlap had 3 on a three-pointer. The team shot 11 of 17 free throws for 65 percent.
