BIG SANDY (January 21) — McKenzie traveled to Big Sandy High School Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests and earned a convincing sweep. The Lady Rebels shook off a slow start to cruise to a 49-19 victory. The Rebels dominated the first half en route to an 83-30 win.

McKenzie had a 12-9 edge after the opening frame, led by Camille Travis with six points on a pair of three-pointers. Savannah Nesbitt, Lilly Bennett and Anna Callahan each had a pair. Ashlyn Berry led Big Sandy with seven points, including a three. Lauren Flowers had a pair.
The Lady Rebels pulled away with a 21-2 advantage in the second quarter, led by Bennett with seven points. Shelby Davis scored six, and Briley Auvenshine had four points. Nesbitt added a pair, and Callahan and Kylie Reynolds each hit a free throw. Avery Mayberry scored Big Sandy’s two points. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 33-11.
McKenzie outscored the Lady Red Devils 15-6 in the third, led by Nesbitt and Bennett with four points each. Davis, Auvenshine and Callahan each added a pair, and Reynolds hit a freebie. Berry scored four for Big Sandy, and Annalise Wade had a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 48-17.
The Lady Red Devils had a 2-1 tilt in the quick fourth on a pair by Berry. Reynolds hit a free throw for McKenzie.
Lilly Bennett led the Lady Rebels with 13 points.
