McKenzie Sweeps Central

McKENZIE (January 8) — McKenzie High School hosted Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Friday for a pair of district basketball contest and earned a sweep. The Lady Rebels dominated the early minutes en route to an 83-23 victory, while the Rebels pulled away in the second quarter to claim a 67-36 win.

Lady Rebels 83, Lady Tigers 23

The Lady Rebels blanked Central 33-0 in the opening frame, led by Savannah Davis with a dozen points, including a pair of three-pointers. Kylie Reynolds scored seven with a three, and Lilly Bennett scored five. Kyeana Sneed and Briley Auvenshine each hit a three, and Anna Callahan also scored three points.

McKenzie had a 14-9 edge in the second quarter, led by Sneed with four points. Katie Chesser hit a three. Auvenshine, Hannah Dillingham and MiKaela Reynolds each had a pair, and Savannah Nesbitt hit a free throw. Lady Tiger Malorie Clements scored five points with a three-pointer, and Mya Harris had four. At the half, McKenzie led 47-9.

The Lady Rebels had a 16-3 advantage in the third, led by Chesser with six points on a pair of threes. Auvenshine scored five with a three-pointer. M. Reynolds also hit a three, and Sneed added a pair. Harris led Central with a pair, and Laegan Binkley hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 63-12.

McKenzie outscored the Lady Tigers 20-11 in the fourth, led by Sneed with seven points. Dillingham scored six on a pair of threes. Nesbitt had five points with a three, and M. Reynolds added a pair. Mykenzie Burton led Central with five points, including a three-pointer. Binkley, Taliegah Woodley and Keely Williams each had a pair.

Lady Rebel Kyeana Sneed led all scorers with 16 points, including a three. Savannah Davis scored a dozen with a pair of threes, and Briley Auvenshine had ten points with a pair of three-pointers.

Mya Harris led the Lady Tigers with six points.

Rebels 67, Tigers 36

McKenzie jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first frame, led by Marquez Taylor with six points. Bryson Steele scored five, Eli Surber hit a three-pointer, and Bryant Haynes and Johnathan Moore each had a pair. Noah Hampton scored all seven Central points, including a three-pointer.

The Rebels pulled away with a 24-8 advantage in the second quarter, led by Moore with five points, including a three. Taylor scored four. Zach Aird and Etijay Tharpe each hit a three, and Caleb Gill also scored three points. Surber, Elijah Seivers and Zay Webber each had a pair. Hampton, Austin Craig, Caleb Haskins and Thomas Crews each had a pair for the Tigers. At the half, the Rebels led 42-15.

McKenzie added to the lead with a 14-4 tilt in the third, led by Surber with five points, including a three. Webber scored three points, and Seivers, Taylor and Moore each added a pair. Crews and Hampton each added a pair for Central. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 56-19.

The Tigers rallied 17-11 in the fourth for a closer final, led by Owen Crocker with nine points, including a pair of threes. Tate Crews and Preston Hollingsworth each hit a three, and Jose Santiago had a pair. Stafford Roditis led McKenzie with five points, including a three. Webber and Aird each hit a three-pointer.

Rebel Marquez Taylor led all scorers with a dozen points. Eli Surber scored ten with a pair of threes.

Noah Hampton led Central with eleven points, including a three-pointer.
