McKenzie Sweeps Humboldt on Homecoming

McKENZIE (January 11) — McKenzie High School celebrated Homecoming Saturday night with an impressive sweep of Humboldt. The Lady Rebels pulled ahead in the second frame and shook off a third-quarter rally by the Lady Vikings to claim a 63-42 win. Looking to avenge last year’s state semifinal loss to the Vikings, the Rebels took a big first-half lead and held off a second-half Humboldt rally for a 76-61 victory.
Prior to the girls’ contest, the Homecoming Royalty was presented and senior Shelby Davis was crowned queen (see separate story).
McKenzie Lady Rebels 63, Humboldt Lady Vikings 42
The opening frame was an 11-11 wash. Kylie Reynolds led McKenzie with five points, including a three-pointer. Dani Dyer, Shelby Davis and Lilly Bennett each had a pair. Lady Viking Caitlyn Armstrong scored five with a three, Jayla Cook had four points, and Jai’Den Patrick had a pair.
The Lady Rebels pulled ahead with a 20-11 advantage in the second quarter, led by Reynolds with six points on a pair of threes. Bennett scored five, and Davis had four points. Dyer hit a three, and Anna Callahan had a pair. Patrick and Cook each scored four for Humboldt, and Reagan Buchanan hit a three. At the half, McKenzie led 31-22.
The Lady Vikings cut into the deficit in the third, outscoring the Lady Rebels 13-9. Buchanan and Cook led with four points each. Patrick scored three points, and Sky Dickey had a pair. Bennett scored all nine McKenzie points. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 40-35.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 23-7 tilt in the fourth, led by Davis with nine points, including a three-pointer. Callahan scored six, and Dyer had four points. Reynolds and Bennett each added a pair. Buchanan led Humboldt with four points, and Mariah Cook hit a three.
Lady Rebel Lilly Bennett led all scorers with 18 points. Shelby Davis scored 15 with a three, and Kylie Reynolds had 13 points with a trio of three-pointers.

Jayla Cook led the Lady Vikings with 12 points. Reagan Buchanan scored eleven with a three.

McKenzie stormed out to a 26-12 lead after the first frame, led by Lucas King with seven points. Nate Whitsell scored six on a pair of threes, and Lazarick Hill had five points. Witt Mitchum scored four points, and Lane Horton and Micah Austin each had a pair. Quanderius Campbell led Humboldt with five points, including a three-pointer. Brandon Randolph scored four, and Bobby Johnson had three points.
The Rebels added to the lead with a 16-13 tilt in the second quarter, led by Austin with six points. King and Hill each scored four, and Whitsell added a pair. Viking Malik Armstrong scored six points. Micaiah Knox had five points with a three, and Campbell added a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 42-25.
Humboldt cut into the deficit with a 15-14 advantage in the third, led by Adrian Turner with five points. Jason Hunt scored four points with a three, and Knox, Johnson and Armstong each added a pair. King led the Rebels with eight points, including a three. Horton scored four, and Hill added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 56-40.
The Vikings had a 21-20 edge in the fourth, led by Turner with six points. Hunt scored four points, and Campbell, Knox and Johnson each hit a three-pointer. Randolph added a pair. Hill led McKenzie with five points, and King and Whitsell each scored four. Horton and Austin each had three points, and Caleb Gill hit a free throw.
Rebel Lucas King led all scorers with 23 points, including a three. Lazarick Hill scored 16. Nate Whitsell had a dozen points with a pair of threes, and Micah Austin scored eleven.
Adrian Turner led Humboldt with eleven points. Quanderius Campbell and Micaiah Knox each scored ten, each with a pair of three-pointers.
