McKenzie Sweeps Obion County

McKENZIE (December 6) — McKenzie High School hosted Obion County Friday night for a pair of non-district basketball contests. McKenzie’s Lady Rebels came out on top 44-41 over Obion County’s Lady Rebels in a tense back-and-forth. The home Rebels came out hot and coasted to a 72-58 win over the visiting Rebels.
Between games, Rebel Lucas King was recognized for reaching 1,000 career points during McKenzie’s season opener against Lexington in November.

McKenzie had an 11-6 lead after the opening frame, led by Shelby Davis with four points. Savannah Nesbitt, Lilly Bennett and Anna Callahan each had a pair, and Briley Auvenshine hit a free throw. Obion County’s Gracie Cole hit a three-pointer, and Ella Decker also scored three points.
Obion County outscored McKenzie 11-7 in the second to pull within a points, led by Bryleigh Travis with six points. Cole hit another three, and Alexus Hooper had a pair. Bennett scored three points for McKenzie, and Dani Dyer and Kylie Reynolds each had a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 18-17.
Obion County took the lead in the third with a 15-13 edge, led by Harleigh Cary with nine points, including a pair of threes. Cole hit another three, Hooper added a pair and Travis hit a freebie. Davis scored seven, and Auvenshine had three points. Bennett added a pair, and Nesbitt hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, Obion County led 32-31.
McKenzie came back for the win with a 13-9 advantage in the fourth, led by Davis with four points. Reynolds hit a three, and Callahan also scored three points. Dyer added a pair, and Camille Travis hit a free throw. Hooper scored five for Obion County, including a three. Cary also hit a three-pointer, and Decker hit a freebie.
McKenzie’s Shelby Davis led all scorers with 15 points. Lilly Bennett scored seven.

Harleigh Cary led Obion County with 12 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

McKenzie jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the first frame, led by Lucas King with 13 points, including a trio of threes. Nate Whitsell scored five, including a three-pointer, and Lazarick Hill had a pair. Reid Logan led Obion County with eight points, including a three. Logan Crabtree scored four points.
McKenzie added to the lead with a 24-15 advantage in the second, led by Whitsell with eight points, including a pair of threes. King scored seven with a three, Hill had five with a three, and Micah Austin scored four points. Logan led Obion County with eight points, including a pair of threes. Crabtree scored four, and Zach Reagor hit a three-pointer. At the half, McKenzie led 44-27.
The third quarter was a 15-15 wash, led by Austin with six points, including a three. Hill scored four, Whitsell had three points, and Evan Jarrett had a pair. Crabtree led Obion County with six points. Reagor scored five points with a three, and Logan had four points. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 59-42.
Obion County cut into the final deficit with a 16-13 edge in the fourth, led by Brayden Clark with eight points, including a pair of threes. Emerson Fussell scored three points, Reagor and Josh Arriaga each had a pair, and Thomas Muse hit a free throw. Johnathan Moore led McKenzie with four points. Whitsell hit a three, and King, Austin and Lane Horton each had a pair.
McKenzie’s Lucas King led all scorers with 22 points, including four three-pointers. Nate Whitsell scored 19, also with four threes. Micah Austin had a dozen points with a three, and Lazarick Hill had eleven with a three-pointer.
Reid Logan led Obion County with 20 points, including a trio of threes. Logan Crabtree scored 14 points.
