McKENZIE (January 31) — McKenzie High School hosted West Carroll Friday for a pair of consequential district basketball contests and took two wins in dramatic fashion before a packed house.
The Lady Rebels pulled away in the second and led by 15 after three quarters, but the Lady War Eagles mounted a rally in the fourth that cut the deficit to single digits in the final minutes. The boys’ contest was back-and-forth throughout, and the intensity reached a fever pitch in the fourth. West Carroll will complete their district schedule this week against Central and Big Sandy and are favored to sweep both. If they do, the Lady War Eagles will finish in third and the War Eagles will clinch at least a tie for first.
McKenzie will also wrap up district play this week against Big Sandy and Huntingdon. The Lady Rebels have a shot at a first-place tie with a win over the Fillies, and the Rebels need to defeat the Mustangs for a first-place tie with West Carroll.
