McKENZIE (November 18) — McKenzie senior golf phenom Maggie Glass signed a letter of intent Wednesday to continue her career at Austin Peay State University. The ceremony was held in the high school theatre with teammates, classmates, family members and MHS Head Coach Larry Joe Smith.
Principal Kelly Spivey welcomed everyone and expressed his excitement and pride.
Coach Smith said Glass is “a prime example of what a lot of hard work can bring” and “a great representative of McKenzie High School.”
Glass had originally committed to Union University, but she told The Banner it didn’t feel right, so she reopened her recruitment. She said Austin Peay made a great offer and she likes the coach.
She said her time as a Lady Rebel has been “an honor, honestly...to get to represent McKenzie High School and to play for Coach Smith for four years. There’s no other school or coach I’d rather represent.”
She will major in Health and Human Performance.
Glass has been the district and region medalist in each of her four years and competed at the state tournament each year. Her highest individual state finish was fourth (last year). She hold the MHS record with a low score of 30. This season, she averaged 37.3 with a low round of 32.
