McLemoresville Hosts Independence Day Celebration

Posted

McLEMORESVILLE (July 4) — The City of McLemoresville hosted its annual July 4th celebration on Sunday in the downtown area with music, a cake walk, parade and food. Mayor Phil Williams welcomed everyone to the city, emceed the event, led the parade, and was the announcer for the cake walk. The Legends Band performed country music for the evening’s entertainment leading to the fireworks show at dark.

One of the highlights of the celebration is the number of children who participate in the parade, which begins at McLemoreville Baptist Church and ends in downtown. Spectators lined the streets and yards, including the lawn of the late actor and actress Hal and Dixie Carter Holbrook to watch as the children and adults and multitude of emergency vehicles passed in parade.

Eddie Carroll was the grand marshal and rode in the parade with Mayor Phil Williams.

The McLemoresville Fire Department and volunteers worked in the concession stand to prepare the ‘world’s best hamburgers,’ a term used by Mayor Williams.

Darrell Ridgely led the gathering in a short devotional in downtown McLemoresville just prior to the cake walk.
