Merchants Outlet Mall Celebrates Ten Years

Posted

McKENZIE (February 15) — In February 2010, Merchants Outlet Mall started in an empty manufacturing building on Highland Drive in McKenzie. It was the late Ben Gaines, Jr. and Wendell Moore, a McKenzie alum, and one other businessman who first opened the business in the 60,000 square-foot building, previously occupied by Brown Shoe Company, Wen-Su Manufacturing and New Generations Furniture.
Today, Marcy and Phillip McKinney own and operate the business. They, along with family and ten employees celebrated the first decade of business, which allows 238 vendors, operating from 400 vendor booths, to be business people without the daily hassle of operating their own individual businesses.
Marcy said she started to work for the late Ben Gaines, Jr. in November 2010 with the intent of a very short tenure. On December 17, 2013, Gaines died suddenly. On February 1, 2014, the McKinneys purchased the business from the Gaines’ heirs.
Marcy said Saturday was a fantastic day with family, friends, vendors, and patrons attending. As many as 102 cars were in the parking lot at one spot check.
