McKenzie High School’s 2021-22 Athletic Accomplishments

Posted

The 2021-22 school year was a great year to be a McKenzie Rebel fan. With several appearances in the district, regional, sectional, and state tournaments, the McKenzie High School sports teams could not be overlooked.

The Lady Rebels and Rebels won seven cumulative district championships in girls’ golf, girls’ and boys’ basketball, girls’ and boys’ soccer, softball, and baseball.

Seven teams also brought home regional titles. McKenzie High earned regional championships in girls’ golf, football, girls’ and boys’ basketball, softball, baseball, and boys’ soccer. Football is the only sport at McKenzie that plays in a region, not a district.

Six total McKenzie High School teams made sectional appearances. To qualify for sectionals, teams must win the regional championship. Lady Rebel Soccer finished as Region Runners-Up but still qualified for sectionals.

Neither football nor golf has sectionals; the regional golf champion automatically goes to the state championship as one of eight teams statewide, and the regional football champion enters weekly play-off tournaments as one of thirty-two teams statewide.

Lady Rebel Soccer, Basketball, and Softball teams made appearances at the sectional tournaments. Rebel Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball also advanced to sectional tournaments.

McKenzie High School teams made six total appearances at their respective state tournaments. Lady Rebel Golf placed sixth in the state. Rebel Basketball and Rebel Soccer were in the State Tournament Elite 8, and Rebel Football and Baseball both placed as State Runners Up, The Lady Rebel Basketball team appeared at the state tournament for the first time since 1963 and arose as State Champions.

Overall, it was a busy year for the Rebels, and it begins again for the 2022-23 school year with Rebel Football August 19, in an away game against the Huntingdon Mustangs.
