McKenzie High School to Recognize 1960, 1963 Rebelette State Tournament Teams

On Tuesday, January 28, McKenzie High School will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1960 Rebelettes advancing to the state tournament. Also recognized will be the 1963 team that returned to the tournament.
Players from the teams and their families are invited to a dinner beginning at 4 p.m. The current Lady Rebels tip off against Hollow Rock-Bruceton at 6 p.m., and at halftime players from the two teams will be presented on the court.
The 1960 Rebelettes began their state run on Wednesday, March 23 with a 58-37 win over Camp Creek Academy. Their season ended the next day with a 44-38 loss to Bradley Central. Players were: Betty Blades, Carol Ellis Daughtery, Judy Burroughs, Annette Sasser, Sally House, Pam Fuchs, Barbara Cozart, Paula Pinson, Judy Abernathy, Jeanne Duncan, Karen Webb, Emily Field, Mary Lou Smith, Gina Hansen, Kay Brown, Diane Stoner and Sharon Neilson.
The 1963 Rebelettes opened the tournament against Centerville and fell 39-38. Players were: Mary Lou Smith, Regina “Pete” Russell, Barbara Cozart, Diane Stoner, Kay Brown, Pam Garrett, Pam Collins, Patti Gaines, Vickie Fields, Suzie Cozart, Betsy Dinwiddie, Larenda Bradfield, Charlotte Melton, Emily Scarbrough, Ann Carol McCaleb, Nancy Bateman, Kay King, Emily Young, Jane Hill, Joyce Moore, Judy Drewry and Judy Faust.
