Mrs. Mignon Edwards, 85, of Huntingdon, Tennessee died Sunday, February 19, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Tim Parish and Brother Chris King officiating.

 The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Edwards was born October 9, 1937 to the late Pete Leon Murphy and Madelyn Massey Nesbitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Edwards who died March 28, 1999, one brother, Billy Murphy and step-father, Morgan Nesbitt; she was a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ.

Mignon’s career in basketball began at Clarksburg and was capped by an outstanding high school career as a forward. She served as team captain for two years and set numerous scoring records during her career including one game with Bruceton where she alone outscored the entire Bruceton team by scoring 39 points. She averaged 29 points per game in her career. Her skills were rewarded by being named All-District, All-Region and All-State teams. Upon graduation from Clarksburg in 1955, she was awarded a scholarship to play for the prestigious Nashville Business College team.    

She is survived by two sons, Burton (Melinda) Edwards of Yuma, Tennessee and Robert “Rookie” (Teri) Edwards of Paris, Tennessee; one brother, Barry Mac (Linda) Murphy of Huntingdon, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Cole Edwards and Allison Edwards; two step-grandchildren, Kaylan Belew and Alyssa Belew; several nieces and nephews.

Honoring her as pallbearers will be Cole Edwards, Chris Murphy, Daniel Edwards, Adam Rogers, Jimmy Darnell, Joey Darnell and Logan Diebold.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude.
