MPD to Host Citizen’s Police Academy

Citizens Can Learn About Police Work in McKenzie

Posted

McKENZIE – The McKenzie Police Department is accepting applications for members of the first session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. This session begins March 5, 2020.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is a chance for citizens, who live or work in the McKenzie area, to get a first-hand view of the operations of the McKenzie Police Department. When one graduates from the Academy, he or she will have a better understanding of what police officers face each day. Participants will not be certified officers.

The class meets one night weekly for ten weeks. Instruction includes use of force, undercover drug operations, crime scene investigation, DUI enforcement, criminal law, firearms and other areas.
During the 10-week class, the participants are required to ride with a McKenzie Police officer at least one time between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. unless approved prior.
Applications can be obtained at McKenzie Police Department. Deadline for application is March 2 or until the class is filled. For more information, please contact Investigator Jasmin Powell or Sgt. Andy Weaver with the McKenzie Police Department at 731-352-2265.
