Rebels Defeat Henry County, Bruceton, Trenton

McKenzie’s Rebels started the second week of the season with a sweep of three games against Henry County, Bruceton, and Trenton.

Henry County Patriots
The Rebels started the week hosting Henry County on Monday, March 21 winning 10-3.

The Patriots got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. The Rebels answered in a big way with a pair of two-run homeruns by Jake McDaniel and Jackson Cassidy making the score 4-1. There were no runs in the second inning but Henry County plated a run in the top of the third inning for a 4-2 score in favor of McKenzie. The Rebels added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings while capping the game with four runs in the sixth inning.

Cassidy had two hits and four RBIs followed by McDaniel with one hit (HR) and three RBIs. Collin McLearin had two singles and Hayden Hixon had three singles with Zayden McCaslin and Nolan Renfro recording one hit each. Renfro had one RBI. Henry County had seven hits driving in three runs in the contest.

Jake McDaniel got the win with five solid innings giving up five hits and striking out four hitters. Ty Anderson came in relief in the sixth inning and finished the game giving up two hits and striking out two.

Bruceton
McKenzie hosted Bruceton on Thursday, March 24 posting a 22-5 victory over the Tigers.

It was a close contest early with Bruceton scoring two runs in the top of the first inning while McKenzie scored four in the bottom of the inning. The Rebels scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning and nine in the third to make it a 19-2 game. They plated their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning while Bruceton added three more runs in the top of the fifth for a 22-5 Rebel win.

The Rebels were hot at the plate with 14 hits with several getting multiple hits. Hayden Hixon had two hits including a homer and a single that drove in three runs while scoring three runs of his own. Ty Anderson ripped two singles and reached base on an error scoring three runs while Braden Birmingham had two singles that drove in a run and scored three runs. Nolan Renfro had two singles that drove in three runs and scored one. Jackson Cassidy had a homer and a single that drove in three runs and scored twice. Jake McDaniel had a single that drove in a run while scoring two runs. Lane Anderson hit a single that drove in two runs while scoring a run of his own. Hayden Garret got a single scoring a run. Tate Surber recorded a single and scored a run. Dawson Brush got a single and scored for the Rebels.

Lane Anderson got the win on the mound while he was relieved by Braden Birmingham.

Trenton
The Rebels traveled to take on a talented Trenton Peabody team and came home with a 9-5 win completing a sweep of the week’s games.

McKenzie got nine runs on 12 hits while holding the Tide to five runs on 12 hits for the win. The game was close for much of the contest with both teams earning runs in the first inning. After no score in the second inning, the Rebels took the lead with a solo run in the top of the third and added another run in the fourth inning while Trenton plated a run in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 Rebel lead. Trenton tied the game with a solo run in the bottom of the fifth inning but in the top of the sixth inning, McKenzie plated six runs while Trenton scored a pair in the bottom of the inning for a 9-5 Rebel lead. No one scored in the seventh inning finishing the game.

Four Rebels recorded multiple hits including Collin McLearin with two singles driving in a run and scoring three runs. Hayden Hixon had a pair of singles driving in a run. Jake McDaniel belted a single and a double driving in a run and scoring one. Jackson Cassidy also had two hits with a single and double that drove in three runs and scored one. Ty Anderson hit a single that drove in a run while scoring one. Zayden McCaslin had a solo hit that drove in two runs while Nolan Renfroe had a single and later scored. Tate Surber had a single and scored while Hayden Garrett reached base on a walk and scored.

Jackson Cassidy got the win on the mound while Zayden McCaslin came in for two innings of relief and Hayden Hixon closed out the game with an inning of work.

McKenzie improves to 6-1 on the season and will be back in action March 31 for two games and April 1 and 2 in Huntingdon’s Diamond Classic Tournament.
