Rebels Rally to Top War Eagles, Lady Rebels Coast

McKENZIE (January 12) — McKenzie High School hosted West Carroll Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests and earned a sweep.

The Lady Rebels jumped out to an early lead, but the Lady War Eagles rallied before the half. McKenzie regained the momentum after the break and cruised to a 77-49 win.

The War Eagles led throughout the first three quarters, but the Rebels took the lead in the final frame and held on for a 56-53 victory.

The Lady Rebels took a 20-9 lead after the opening frame, led by Savannah Davis with eleven points. Lilly Bennett scored four, Briley Auvenshine hit a three-pointer, and Dani Dyer had a pair. Alyssa Butler led West Carroll with five points, including a three. Erin Norman scored four points.

The Lady War Eagles cut the deficit with a 17-11 edge in the second quarter, led by Mia Jones with seven points, including a three. A. Butler and Kaylee Butler each hit a three-pointer, and Norman and Skylar Jones each had a pair. Kyeana Sneed led McKenzie with four points. Dyer, Davis and Bennett each added a pair, and Kylie Reynolds hit a free throw. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 31-26.

McKenzie pulled away with a 26-9 advantage in the third, led by Bennett with a dozen points, including a three. Davis scored six, and Auvenshine had four points. Dyer added a pair, and Reynolds and Anna Callahan each hit a free throw. M. Jones scored all nine West Carroll points, including a three-pointer. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 57-35.

The Lady Rebels sealed the win with a 20-14 tilt in the fourth, led by Sneed with seven points. MiKaela Reynolds scored six points. Davis, K. Reynolds and Bennett each added a pair, and Dyer hit a freebie. K. Butler and Janzen Winberry each scored five for West Carroll, each with a three-pointer. M. Jones and Jayden Rader each had a pair.

Lady Rebel Savannah Davis led all scorers with 21 points. Lilly Bennett scored 20 with a three-pointer. Kyeana Sneed had eleven points.

Mia Jones led the Lady War Eagles with 18 points, including a pair of threes.

Rebels 56, War Eagles 53

West Carroll had a 13-9 lead after the first frame, led by Jalen Anglin with six points. Xander Moon hit a three-pointer, and Luke Moore and Tyler Johnson each had a pair. Bryson Steele led McKenzie with four points. Marquez Taylor and Zay Webber each had a pair, and Caleb Gill hit a free throw.

The War Eagles added to their lead with a 12-9 advantage in the second quarter, led by Anglin with eight points. Colton Hart hit a three, and Jack Barrow hit a free throw. Zayden McCaslin led the Rebels with four points. Johnathan Moore hit a three, and Taylor added a pair. At the half, West Carroll led 25-18.

McKenzie cut the deficit with a 19-16 edge in the third, led by J. Moore with six points on a pair of threes. Taylor scored four, and Eli Surber hit a three-pointer. Steele, Webber and Gill each added a pair. Moon led the War Eagles with seven points, including a three. Anglin scored four, Hart hit another three-pointer, and L. Moore added a pair. Heading into the final frame, West Carroll led 41-37.

The Rebels rallied 19-12 in the fourth to claim the win, led by Taylor with seven points, including a three. Steele scored six. J. Moore had four points with a three-pointer, and McCaslin added a pair. L. Moore and Anglin led West Carroll with four points each, Moore with a three. Johnson and Moon each added a pair.

War Eagle Jalen Anglin led all scorers with 22 points. Xander Moon scored a dozen with a pair of three-pointers.

Marquez Taylor led McKenzie with 15 points, including a three. Johnathan Moore scored 13 with four three-pointers, and Bryson Steele had a dozen points.
