TRENTON — McKenzie’s Rebels made the trip to face defending State AA Champion Trenton in their first region contest and came away on the short end of a 42-0 contest.

The scoring started quickly with Noah Halbrook taking the kickoff and dashing 78 yards for a touchdown with just 11 seconds gone on the clock. The PAT was good for a 7-0 Trenton lead. The Rebels did move the ball some in their first possession but ended up punting as the drive stalled. Trenton took the ball and drove deep into McKenzie territory and ended up attempting a field goal which missed. The Rebels found themselves punting again and this one was partially blocked giving the Tide good field position in Rebel territory. Trenton struck on a first down pass to Halbrook resulting in a 26-yard touchdown. The PAT was good with 2:50 left in the first quarter for a 14-0 Tide lead.

McKenzie went 3 plays and out on their next possession punting the ball back to Trenton with just seconds left in the opening quarter.

Trenton tacked on their third touchdown on the first play of the second quarter on a 28-yard touchdown run by quarterback Cooper Baugus with 11:53 left in the second quarter. The PAT was good for a 21-0 Tide lead.

The Rebels launched their best offensive drive of the night moving the ball into Trenton territory before Evan Jarrett had a pass picked off ending the possession. Three plays later Trenton was in the endzone again on a 3-yard touchdown run by Baugus. PAT was good for a 28-0 deficit for the Rebels with 4:01 left before halftime.

McKenzie got nowhere with the ensuing possession and punted again to Trenton. Three plays later Baugus had his third touchdown on a 10-yard run with 1:05 left in the first half. The PAT was good for a 35-0 Tide lead going into halftime.

McKenzie opened the second half with the ball but again found themselves having to punt the ball back to the Tide. Three plays later Trenton had their final score of the night on a 2-yard touchdown by Jacquez Wilkins. The PAT was good for a 42-0 score.

Both teams swapped possessions for the remainder of the game with no further scoring. McKenzie has this week off before playing host to Halls for another region contest and Homecoming.
