Rebels Take First Loss on South Gibson Rally

PARIS (March 13) — After six straight wins, the McKenzie Middle School Rebels suffered their first loss of the season Friday, 4-2, to the South Gibson Hornets at the Hulme’s Classic.

McKenzie struck first with a run in the top of the first frame, but South Gibson took the lead with a pair in the bottom half. The Rebels plated the tying run in the top of the third. The Hornets regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, then added an insurance run in the fifth.

Rebel Drew Chappell went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Craegan Travis was 1-for-1 with a walk. Carter Kee went 1-for-1. Jake Cassidy was 0-for-1 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base. Colt Norden went 0-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Lane Anderson was 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.

Aiden Moore was 1-for-3 for South Gibson with a double and two RBIs.

Hornet Luke Joslin got the start, allowing two unearned runs on no hits while striking out two and walking four in two-and-a-third innings. Noah Clouse earned the win in relief, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out two and walking none in three-and-two-thirds innings.

Lane Anderson started and took the loss for McKenzie, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out two and walking two in four innings. Dawson Brush threw an inning and two-thirds, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out three and walking none.
