Refrigerator Pickles

4 cup sugar
1/2 cup salt
1 1/3 teaspoon tumeric
1 1/3 teaspoon celery seed

4 cup vinegar (white)
3 medium onions, sliced thin
1 1/3 teaspoon mustard seed
Cucumbers sliced thin
Mix sugar, vinegar, salt and pepper together. Do not heat. This syrup is used cold. Wash and sterilize 3 quart jars. Slice one onion into each jar. Wash and slice cucumbers to fill jars. Stir syrup well and pour over cucumbers and onion. Screw on lids. Can use ice cream bucket. Keep in refrigerator 5 days before using. Will keep 9 months or longer in refrigerator.
