Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks the Opening of the New Veterans’ Cemetery

PARKERS CROSSROADS (August 7) — A ribbon-cutting event was Tuesday, August 7 on the grounds of the cemetery to mark the completion of construction and the opening of the first rural veterans cemetery in the state. It was a blazing 93 degrees and attendees took shelter under a large tent to hear various speakers.
The 132-acre cemetery, located at 693 Wildersville Road, opened for use on July 6. Ray Parish, a resident of Huntingdon and the former commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 4939 at McKenzie was the first to be buried at the cemetery.
The hours for public visitation are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
The cemetery is located at 693 Wildersville Road in Parkers Crossroads. It is adjacent to the Parkers Crossroads Battlefield, used during the Civil War.
