TREZEVANT — Rosa (Peanie) Newbill Yates died February 28, 2019 in Bartlett, Tennessee at the age of 101.
Rosa was born in Trezevant, Tennessee on September 11, 1917. She attended Trezevant Schools and First Baptist Church. She was a Trezevant resident her entire life but had been staying with her granddaughter in Bartlett, Tennessee for the past few years.
Rosa married William (Charles) Yates in 1933 and their only child, Nancy Louise, was born in 1934. Rosa worked for the Milan Army Ammunition Plant (Arsenal) during World War II and thereafter worked and retired from the Henry I. Siegel (HIS) Factory.
Rosa loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, friends and church family, shopping “until you drop” and was an avid reader, especially newspapers. She was a huge sports fan, especially basketball. Her favorite teams were the Memphis Grizzlies, University of Memphis Tigers and University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball.
Rosa was predeceased by her parents, Malcolm and Loulie Newbill; husband, William (Charles) Yates; Daughter, Nancy Cunningham Hinton; Son-in-Law, Gordon Cunningham; Grandson, David Gordon Odom; and five (5) older siblings.
Rosa is survived by her youngest brother, Jack Newbill, Lagrange, GA; granddaughters, Sherry Cunningham Schedler of Bartlett, TN and Perian Cunningham Ragland and Kara Cunningham Odom, both of West Memphis, AR.
She leaves her great grandchildren, Jason Schedler of Memphis, TN, Keith Odom of West Memphis, ARK., Michael Odom of Memphis, Tenn. and Rachel Wilson and Rana Ragland, both of West Memphis, Ark.   She also leaves her special nieces, Sandra Newbill Powers of Nashville and Annette (Patrick) Trujillo of Panama City, Florida; special nephew, Wayne (Angie) Newbill of Lagrange, Georgia and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and their spouses, cousins, as well as her “family of friends” in Trezevant and Trezevant First Baptist Church.
Services were Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Trezevant. Visitation waswill noon through 2 p.m. and her service was at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Malcolm Norton. Pallbearers for Mrs. Yates were Jim Moore, David Scates, Jerry Crossett, Danny Belew, Wayne Newbill, Hilliard Mann, and Major Walpole.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 60 Church Street, Trezevant, Tennessee 38258.
Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
