Carroll County Sheriff’s Reports

Posted

Multiple Charges — James Scott, 33, of 249 Byas Road was arrested on 11 different charges and Dustin Lynn Fonville, 26, of Humboldt was arrested on six charges following a lengthy police pursuit on Oct. 16.

According to the report by Deputy Chances Townes, he attempted to pull over a black 2004 Kia Amanti driven by Scott due to the registration numbers not matching the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated, reaching speeds over 80 mph, and the pursuit continued on Highways 22, 79, and 140. The pursuit ended on Mitchell Loop in Weakley County when the vehicle struck Townes’ patrol car after almost colliding head-on with another deputy’s vehicle. A computer check showed that Scott had an active warrant out of Carroll County for failure to appear in an aggravated child abuse case. Fonville, a passenger in the vehicle, had no warrants against him. Deputies were able to locate an orange backpack that was thrown out of the vehicle during the pursuit, and in that backpack they found 5.9 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, a liquid substance that later tested positive for heroin, several items of drug paraphernalia, three firearms, and several rounds of ammunition.

Vandalism — Jill Phelps told Deputy Christopher Adams on Oct. 17 that someone damaged the heat and air unit at her residence on North Birmingham Lane in McKenzie.

Phelps showed the deputy what appeared to be where a hole was drilled in a copper line, causing the freon to leak. The cost of repairing the unit was $475. Adams recommended Phelps install security cameras.
