Posted

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 23 Bethel Wildcats pushed their record to 3-0 and 2-0 in league action with a MSC 2-1 overtime road win at University of the Cumberland’s Sunday. It was Bethel’s first-ever win in Williamsburg.

It was a very physical match that saw the Cats strike first as Damani Haris scored on an assist from Jauan Penagos at the 36:21 mark of the first period.  The match remained that way until with just 24 seconds left in the match, the Patriots scored on a free kick to tie the game and send it to overtime. With 2:46 left in the extra period, the Wildcats won on a goal by Alphonso Gooden. The assist was credited to Antoine Ferez. It was Gooden’s team-leading third goal on the season.

Cumberlands had a 14-7 margin in shots but Bethel had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. Bethel’s Norberto Lima Vieira had two saves in the match.

Coach Malang Jarju commented, “Our young men showed a lot of determination and courage today. We had a great will to win and I am really proud of them and this effort.”

The Wildcats travel to Life University Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. CST matchup.
