Softball Celebrates Season at Banquet

Posted

The MHS Softball Team celebrated it’s 2022 season with a year-end banquet at the high school cafeteria Thursday evening, June 9. After a meal of barbecue and chicken with the fixings catered by Big Daddy’s, Softball Head Coach Kristi Brown kicked things off with a review of the season expressing how good the team chemistry was with everyone working together.

“We had players playing multiple positions throughout the season and I never heard any complaints from anyone,” said Brown.

She also noted that 2004 was the last time that the softball program had won the region tournament until this year. This year’s softball team won the district and region tournaments and were not eliminated until sectionals.

All of the team members were recognized with certificates, some gifts and shirts from the On Deck Club. This year’s team had two seniors in Anna Robinson and Jaden Barton with the remainder coming back for another exciting year next year including Katie Chesser, Savannah Davis, Briley Auvenshine, Alyse Lowe, Kassidy Brown, Taylor Rawls, Aubrey Jackson, Ady Freeman, Jaleah Moore, Kristin Bradberry, Nicole Gibson and Payton Ognibene.

Several players won awards for their efforts this season. Three made All-District including Anna Robinson, Payton Ognibene, and Kassidy Brown. Three more made Honorable Mention All-District including Jaden Barton, Katie Chesser, and Briley Auvenshine. Four players made the All-District Tournament team including Auvenshine who was named District MVP, Ognibene, Brown, and Davis. There were two individual team awards given including Offensive Player of the Year which went to Savannah Davis and Defensive Player of the Year which went to Katie Chesser.
