Surber Leaves Watershed Authority Board

Posted

HUNTINGDON (October 27) — Tommy Surber, chairman and an original member of the Carroll County Watershed Authority, asked not to be reappointed to the authority and presided over his final meeting on Tuesday, October 27.
Surber, of McKenzie, was a member of the Authority since its inception in 1985. He was appointed chairman in 1988, a position he held until last Tuesday, when Natalie Porter was elected to the post.
Surber, the son-in-law to Dale Kelley, secretary of the Authority, said the board set out to create a first-class project in the creation of the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreation Lake. He said he saw the entire process from permitting, land purchases, clearing the lake, RV parks, boat docks, and establishing a 300-acre mitigation site to comply with wetland requirements. Kelley joked that Surber became his son-in-law during that tenure.
He was presented a plaque for his 35 years of service.

In other business, the board welcomed new member Brad Chappell from McKenzie. He was appointed by Governor Bill Lee.
The board approved the construction of two private boat docks. William Coates of Klye Road and John Ulen of Sportsman Cove.
Kelley announced the Junior High Bassmaster Tournament was a great success and generated approximately $400,000 in economic impact to the county.
The next meeting is November 24, 2 p.m. at Huntingdon City Hall.
