McKenzie Sweet Tea and Southern Pickin’s Festival is Friday, Saturday

McKenzie Sweet Tea Festival has a new emphasis on antiques and pickings this year.

The event begins Friday, September 24 with strolls through the antique and special interest shops of McKenzie Antique Mall, Merchants Outlet Mall, both on Highland Drive, and Jack Martin’s Jewelry in downtown McKenzie. The stroll is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Music by the Renaissance Bluegrass Band is 7 to 9 p.m. in downtown McKenzie.

Food trucks will be located along Banner Row and Broadway.

Saturday, September 25 will offer many items by pop-up vendors in downtown, on Cedar, Waldran, and at the McKenzie Antique Mall, Merchants Outlet Mall, and Jack Martin Jewelry.

The Farmers’ Market (loaded with crafts, produce, baked goods and plants) is hosting its Music & Mums event from 8 a.m. until NOON. Get ready for fall by purchasing fall mums and pumpkins. Drink complimentary sweet tea while checking out “the biggest sunflower” contest and shopping the farmers’ market.

The Farmers’ Market features live bluegrass music featuring Noah Smyth, 10-11 a.m. and at the Merchants Outlet Mall, 1-2 p.m.

Check out the inside/outside sidewalk sale at Magnolia Mercantile located at 17 Broadway.

Sweet Tea & Southern Pickin’s luncheon 12-1:30 p.m. with guest speaker Marty Marbry — “Booth Boutique” Marty talks about the joys and pitfalls of starting your own booth business, as she showcases a few easy decorating ideas for the holidays. $15 Advance tickets with limited seating can be purchased at McKenzie City Hall.

Performing music in the gazebo downtown featuring Tera Townsend, 1 to 2 p.m., and Chris McGuigan, 2-3 p.m.

Urban Trading located at 55 Broadway will have a vintage sidewalk sale throughout the day on Saturday. The store is hosting other events like the DIY fall door hanger. 10 a.m.-NOON. “Booth Boutique — A Conversation with Marty” — Luncheon on Saturday. Marty Marbry, West Tennessee Tourism Director will discuss the joys and pitfalls of starting your own booth. She will share her learning experiences of going from one to multiple booths, how to be successful and increase your profits, in addition to showcasing holiday decorating tips and techniques.

“Urban DIY Fall Door Hangers” — Artist and boutique owner, Ashley Little of Urban Trading Company, will teach participants to make their own artistic and creative fall door hangers to take home. There are several varieties to choose from.

“Urban Restoration” — Artist and boutique owner, Ashley Little, of Urban Trading Company will teach the basics and techniques of restoring and chalk painting furniture. Before you kick it to the curb, take that piece of hand-me-down or flea market furniture and learn how to turn it into a stylish one-of-a-kind show-stopper that will take center stage in your home décor.
