The Shepherd’s Table Returns January 15

Posted

The Shepherd’s Table, a community kitchen, returns 5:15 p.m., January 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Huntingdon.
A meal is served, restaurant style, to the hungry and those that do not want to eat alone on the third Tuesday of each month at the Church’s Fellowship Hall, located at 19835 E. Main Street, in Huntingdon.
The supper is open to the public and the kitchen will serve food until 6:45 p.m.
The menu for the January meal includes homemade vegetable beef soup, peanut butter and jelly or pimento cheese sandwich, and delicious apple crisp served with ice cream. Beverages will consist of sweet tea, unsweet tea, lemonade, milk, juice and water. All hot meals are prepared fresh. The menu committee ensures each meal is delicious and nutritious.
Many of the attendees of The Shepherd’s Table might not have the opportunity to dine out.

Each meal is served at the table, eliminating the need to stand in line or serve one’s self.
The mission of The Shepherd’s Table is to serve a hot meal to those who are hungry or simply do not wish to eat alone.
The Community Kitchen served nearly 70 guests last month and anticipates the same or more in January.
David Carter, the chairman of The Shepherd’s Table committee, encourages anyone that is interested to contact the church and get on the calendar to volunteer. He refers to his volunteers as the Good Shepherds. “It’s not just about food. It is about fellowship and loving your neighbor. Come on out and enjoy the soup and sandwiches with us this month.”
More information about volunteering or donating to The Shepherd’s Table may be obtained by calling The First Presbyterian Church of Huntingdon at (731) 986-5642. If no answer please leave a message. Someone will get back with you as soon as possible.
The Shepherd’s Table will continue to serve the community as long as people keep coming and the donations are there to support it. Next month’s meal is February 19.
