Tigers Eliminate War Eagles, 8-5

ATWOOD (May 6) — The West Carroll War Eagles saw their season come to an end Monday with an 8-5 loss to the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Tigers in a District 11A Baseball Tournament elimination game.
Central struck first with a run in the top of the first, but West Carroll answered with one in the home half. The Tigers pulled ahead again with two runs in the third and two more in the top of the fourth, but the War Eagles quickly cut their deficit in half with a pair in the bottom half. They then pulled within one with a run in the fifth. Central pushed the lead with three in the sixth, and a West Carroll rally in the bottom of the seventh fell short at just a run.
Tiger Dalton Williams was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Gage Lowry was 1-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Conner Gaia was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Malik Mathis was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Thomas Crews was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Austin Craig was 1-for-2. Mac Hooten was 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

War Eagle Devin Nash was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Wyatt Baker was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Aaron Heckert was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Zach Heckert was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Tyson Keymon was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Antonio Williams was 1-for-4 with a double.
Thomas Crews earned the complete-game win for Central, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out four and walking three.
P.J. Winberry took the loss for West Carroll, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits while striking out six and walking three in three and a third innings. Devin Nash threw an inning and two-thirds in relief, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out one and walking two. Curt Foster pitched a third of an inning, allowing two unearned runs on no hits and a walk. Dylan Cox threw the final inning and two-thirds, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out two and walking none.
