Employment Picture Mixed in Tri-Counties

NASHVILLE — Unemployment percentage slightly increased in Carroll County and it decreased slightly in Henry and Weakley counties in January as compared to one month earlier.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Tennessee’s overall unemployment percentage decreased from 5.6 percent in December to 5.1 percent in January.
In Carroll County, the January 2021 rate was 6.2 percent compared to 6.0 in December and 6.0 in January 2020.
From a labor force of 12,134, there were 11,382 employed and 752 unemployed.

In Henry County, the January 2021 rate was 6.1 percent compared to 6.4 in December and 5.5 in January 2020. From a labor force of 13,426, there were 12,611 employed and 815 unemployed.
In Weakley County, the January rate was 4.7 percent in January 2021 compared to 5.1 in December and 4.2 in January 2020.
In Tennessee, the rate decreased in 78 counties and increased in 10 counties in January as compared to one month earlier.
Williamson, Moore, Cheatham, Wilson and Dickson counties recorded the lowest unemployment in that respective order. Three counties in west Tennessee are among the top 10 in unemployment. Those are Lake (8.4 percent), Hardeman (7.8),, Shelby (7.7), and McNairy (7.7).
