Unemployment Down In Tri-Counties

Unemployment fell in the tri-counties between July and August.

In Carroll County, unemployment fell from 4.9 percent to 4.4 percent. Out of a total labor force of 11,784, 11,265 were employed while 519 were unemployed.

In Henry County, unemployment decreased from 4.7 percent to 4.2 percent over the period. 563 were unemployed and 12,987 were employed out of a total labor force of 13,541.

Weakley County unemployment decreased the biggest amount from 5.5 percent to 4.1 percent. 14,491 were employed and 619 were unemployed out of a labor force of 15,110.

Across the state, the unemployment rate decreased in 93 counties while increasing in one county and one county’s rate remained the same. Seven West Tennessee counties were listed with the top ten highest unemployment rates including Shelby, Lauderdale, Lake, Haywood, Hardeman, McNairy, and Decatur counties. No West Tennessee counties were listed in the top ten lowest unemployment rates. Williamson, Moore, and Cheatham counties had the top three lowest unemployment rates in the state.

Statewide, the unemployment rate fell from 4.7 percent to 4.3 percent in August.
