Unemployment Increases in Area, State

NASHVILLE — Unemployment in all 95 counties in Tennessee increased during December 2020 compared to one month and one year earlier.
According to statistics from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Tennessee had an overall unemployment rate of 6.4 percent compared to the higher U.S. rate of 6.7 percent.
Carroll County recorded 11,656 employed from a labor force of 12,520, leaving 864 unemployed. The December rate was 6.9 percent, compared to 5.5 one month earlier and 4.7 one year earlier.

Henry County had 13,367 employed from a labor force of 14,374, leaving 630 unemployed. The December rate was 7.0 percent compared to 5.3 one month earlier and 4.2 one year earlier.
Weakley County had 15,234 employed from a labor force of 16,172, leaving 938 unemployed. The December rate was 5.8 percent, compared to 4.6 one month earlier and 3.4 one year earlier.
Williamson County recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 4.2 percent. Lake County had the highest at 10.6 percent. Three West Tennessee counties were in the 10 counties with the highest unemployment. Those were Lake, McNairy and Shelby.
The counties with the lowest unemployment are generally clustered around Nashville.
