HUNTINGDON — Walter Smothers, director of public safety was selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police beginning in August for the year 2020-21.

The Association has 12 districts across the state and Smothers will represent District 11, which is comprised of the following counties: Carroll, Weakley, Gibson, Obion, Lake, Dyer and Crockett.

In this difficult time for our nation and for law enforcement the TACP is taking the lead to develop a model for law enforcement in our state that will accommodate change while meeting the needs of officer protection and the protection of our citizens.

“I plan to contribute every possible effort to help this great organization move ahead as we navigate into, what is now, an uncertain future, concluded Smothers.

He and wife, Tresa have one daughter, Dr. Emily Ezell and her husband, Spencer, and one grandchild, Sarah.
