TIPTONVILLE (November 22) — The West Carroll War Eagles ended their season Friday with a 46-0 loss to the undefeated Lake County Falcons in the TSSAA Class 1A State Football Quarterfinals. West Carroll finishes with an 8-5 record and the team’s first quarterfinal appearance since 2012. It was the Falcons that eliminated the War Eagles last year, only one round earlier.

The loss was the final high school football game for West Carroll seniors Wyatt Baker, Bryce Bolton, Jeremiah Bryant, Zach Perry and Jarrius Weatherford.

West Carroll won the coin toss and elected to defer possession to the second half.

Lake County started the opening drive at the Falcon 43 and scored on seven plays, capped by a 19-yard run by Larry Tubbs. Tubbs also ran it in for two points, and the Falcons led 8-0 with 7:27 to play in the first frame.

War Eagle Jeremiah Bryant made an excellent return from near the 15 out to the Falcon 43. Jarrius Weatherford gained five on a pair of runs, but the next play resulted in a fumble recovered by Falcon Keyshawn Gross.

Starting at the far 38, Lake County kept it on the ground with Tubbs and quarterback Tanner Snyder trading carries until Snyder threw to Izaiah Matheny for a 24-yard touchdown. Snyder kept for two points, and the Falcons led 16-0 with a minute and a half remaining in the first.

West Carroll went three-and-out as the game moved into the second quarter. Bryant’s punt was downed near midfield.

Lake County mixed in the passing game on an eight-play scoring drive ending in a 12-yard keeper by Snyder. He kept for two points to up the lead to 24-0 with 7:30 to play in the first half.

The War Eagles went three-and-out again. Bryant’s punt was fair-caught at the Falcon 38.

The Falcon ate up the rest of the clock, scoring on ten plays. Snyder threw to Cayden Puckett for the touchdown, then kept for the two-point conversion. With seven seconds to play in the half, Lake County led 32-0.

The Falcons kicked for a touchback, and West Carroll managed one play before intermission.

The War Eagles received the second-half kick and started deep at their own 16. Bryant’s first-down throw was picked off by Matheny and run back for a touchdown. Snyder threw to Jamarius Williams for two points, and Lake County led 40-0 for a running clock.

West Carroll started the ensuing drive at the far 35. Bryant ran for a short gain, then scrambled for seven yards. On third-and-two, he made a short gain, then had a short loss on fourth down.

Lake County took over at the War Eagle 42 with Puckett at quarterback. He kept for seven yards, then Tubbs earned back-to-back first downs. He repeated for five, then Puckett kept for an eleven-yard touchdown. He threw incomplete on the two-point try, and the Falcons led 46-0 near the end of the third.

The War Eagles received the kick as the quarter ended and started the final frame at their own 19. They quickly faced fourth-and-ten, but Bryce Bolton ran for eleven to earn the team’s first first down of the contest. Bryant threw incomplete, then kept for a gain of nine. On third-and-one, Weatherford broke through for a 34-yard run. On first down at the 26, Bryant had a touchdown run negated by a penalty. Weatherford was victim to a face mask penalty by Lake County, and West Carroll was threatening again. A fumble on the next play doomed the drive as the Falcons recovered.

Lake County ran three plays before time expired.
