War Eagles, Lady War Eagles Lose to Bruceton, Perry County

West Carroll vs Bruceton
The Lady War Eagles played host to Bruceton in District softball action, Tuesday Afternoon, April 19, losing a 9-0 decision to the Lady Tigers.

The game started out scoreless for both teams through four complete innings until Bruceton exploded for six runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. West Carroll went scoreless in the bottom of the inning but Bruceton added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the win. The remainder of the contest went scoreless with the Lady War Eagles taking the loss.

West Carroll managed only one hit while giving up 10 to the Lady Tigers. Karma Wilkey went the distance for the Lady War Eagles giving up all ten hits and nine runs and struck out five during the game.

Perry County
On Thursday, April 21, Perry County came to Atwood for a district contest against West Carroll with the Lady War Eagles falling on the short end of a 5-1 contest.

The Lady War Eagles scattered four hits offensively while giving up nine hits to Perry County. Kirsten Baker led the way with two base hits driving in a run. Tavi Jones and Karma Wilkey each had a base hit. Wilkey was on the mound for the Lady War Eagles going nearly the whole game giving up seven hits, four runs, walking one, and striking out six batters.

West Carroll played Bruceton on back-to-back days hosting Bruceton on Monday, April 18 and traveling to them on Tuesday, April 19.

Bruceton Game 1

The Tigers scored runs in all but one inning enroute to defeating the War Eagles 9-5 on April 18.

The War Eagles fell behind early and were not able to come back. The Tigers scored a run in the top of the first with West Carroll scoring twice in the bottom of the first to take a brief lead. Hollow Rock-Bruceton pulled away for good with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, a solo run in the third, and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. The War Eagles added solo runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.

West Carroll’s Jason Langston, Nolan Grant, and Seth Edwards each collected a hit while the War Eagles stole seven bases with two players stealing multiple bases.

Bruceton Game 2
Their second game took place on Tuesday evening, April 19, with the Tigers winning 13-3 in five innings.

West Carroll scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning with Langston, Parker McAfee, and Jose Martinez scoring the runs. The War Eagles collected six hits during the game while giving up 10 hits to the Tigers. The Tigers tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning and took the lead for good in the fourth inning plating another three runs for a 6-3 lead. Bruceton capped the game with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the win.

McAfee started the game on the mound for the War Eagles allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out four over four innings. Martinez came in relief for West Carroll.

Greenfield
The War Eagles played host to Greenfield Thursday, April 21, dropping a 7-4 decision to the Yellow Jackets. West Carroll outhit Greenfield 8-6 but couldn’t get enough runs across the plate to win. The Yellow Jackets scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning taking a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, West Carroll scored all four of their runs taking a brief 4-2 lead in the top of the third. Greenfield answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning retaking the lead for good 5-4. They scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the win.

Jason Langston led the way with three hits driving in a run and scoring a run. Jose Martinez had a pair of hits while Parker McAfee had a hit driving in a run. Conner Kothe had a base hit scoring a run. Cole McMinn had a hit driving in a run and scoring a run.

Seth Edwards started on the mound lasting three innings allowing four hits and six runs while striking out two.
