ATWOOD (January 14) — West Carroll High School hosted McKenzie Tuesday for a pair of district basketball games. The Lady Rebels stayed a few points ahead throughout a low-scoring, defensive contest to top the Lady War Eagles 37-28. The undefeated Rebels had a seven-point lead at the half, but the War Eagles battled back to take the lead in the third. The game went back-and-forth down the stretch, and West Carroll took the edge in the final minutes for a 61-58 victory.

The Lady Rebels had a 7-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Dani Dyer, Anna Callahan and Camille Travis with two points each. Lilly Bennett hit a free throw. Lady War Eagles Amaya Thompson and Tatym Keymon each had a pair, and Mia Jones hit a free throw.
McKenzie added to the lead with an 11-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Callahan with three points. Bennett, Savannah Nesbitt and Kylie Reynolds each had a pair, and Dyer and Shelby Davis each hit a free throw. Thompson and Keymon each added a pair for West Carroll, and Macey Cunningham and Denver Brooks each hit a free throw. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 18-11.
The third was a 12-12 wash. Bennett led McKenzie with eight points, and Davis scored four. Lady War Eagle Alyssa Butler hit a three-pointer, and Brooks also scored three points. Cunningham, Keymon and Jones each added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 30-23.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 7-5 edge in the fourth, led by Bennett with three points. Reynolds and Callahan each added a pair. Keymon led West Carroll with four points, and Butler hit a freebie.
Lady Rebel Lilly Bennett led all scorers with 14 points. Anna Callahan scored seven.
