War Eagles Hand Rebels First Loss, Lady Rebels Win Defensive Bout

ATWOOD (January 14) — West Carroll High School hosted McKenzie Tuesday for a pair of district basketball games. The Lady Rebels stayed a few points ahead throughout a low-scoring, defensive contest to top the Lady War Eagles 37-28. The undefeated Rebels had a seven-point lead at the half, but the War Eagles battled back to take the lead in the third. The game went back-and-forth down the stretch, and West Carroll took the edge in the final minutes for a 61-58 victory.

The Lady Rebels had a 7-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Dani Dyer, Anna Callahan and Camille Travis with two points each. Lilly Bennett hit a free throw. Lady War Eagles Amaya Thompson and Tatym Keymon each had a pair, and Mia Jones hit a free throw.
McKenzie added to the lead with an 11-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Callahan with three points. Bennett, Savannah Nesbitt and Kylie Reynolds each had a pair, and Dyer and Shelby Davis each hit a free throw. Thompson and Keymon each added a pair for West Carroll, and Macey Cunningham and Denver Brooks each hit a free throw. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 18-11.
The third was a 12-12 wash. Bennett led McKenzie with eight points, and Davis scored four. Lady War Eagle Alyssa Butler hit a three-pointer, and Brooks also scored three points. Cunningham, Keymon and Jones each added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Rebels led 30-23.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 7-5 edge in the fourth, led by Bennett with three points. Reynolds and Callahan each added a pair. Keymon led West Carroll with four points, and Butler hit a freebie.
Lady Rebel Lilly Bennett led all scorers with 14 points. Anna Callahan scored seven.

Tatym Keymon led the Lady War Eagles with ten points.

McKenzie had a 12-11 edge after the first frame, led by Lucas King with six points. Nate Whitsell scored four, and Lazarick Hill had a pair. Jeremiah Bryant led West Carroll with five points, including a three-pointer. Luke Moore, Jalen Anglin and Josh Clark each had a pair.
The Rebels added to the lead with a 20-14 advantage in the second quarter, led by King with eight points, including a pair of threes. Whitsell again scored four. Hill and Micah Austin each had three points, and Lane Horton had a pair. Moore led the War Eagles with five points, and Bryant scored four. Tyler Johnson hit a three-pointer, and Anglin added a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 32-25.
The War Eagles cut the deficit with a 17-13 tilt in the third, led by Anglin with six points. Moore again scored five. Johnson hit another three, and Bryant also had three points. King scored five for the Rebels with a three-pointer. Austin hit a three, and Hill also scored three points. Whitsell added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 45-42.
West Carroll rallied 19-13 in the fourth to take the win, led by Anglin with a dozen, including a pair of three-pointers. Bryant also hit a three, and Moore and Clark each added a pair. Hill led McKenzie with six points. King scored five with three, and Austin added a pair.
Rebel Lucas King led all scorers with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Lazarick Hill scored 14 points, and Nate Whitsell had ten.
Jalen Anglin led the War Eagles with 22 points, including a pair of threes. Jeremiah Bryant scored 15, also with a pair of three-pointers. Luke Moore had 14 points.
