War Eagles, Rebels Win in Henry County Jamboree

PARIS — Several local teams were in action at the Henry County Jamboree including McKenzie, West Carroll, Henry County, and Dresden.
 
West Carroll
West Carroll kicked off the annual Henry County Football Jamboree Friday night, August 12 with a win against the Stewart County Rebels. Both teams swapped possessions to start their contest before the Rebels hit the scoreboard first with a touchdown with 30 seconds remaining in the first period. The extra point attempt was good for a 7-0 lead.
 
 West Carroll answered with a long run by Jay Long to the Stewart County 44-yard line. The War Eagles scored a few plays later but the TD was negated by a penalty. They continued to drive closer with Long scoring a half-yard touchdown with 5:26 left in the second period. The extra point was good to tie the contest 7-7.
 
A short time later, the War Eagles intercepted a Rebel pass near midfield. Long rushed 25 yards putting West Carroll in good field position. Three plays later, quarterback Jaxon Mims hit a receiver for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Stewart County leaving the War Eagles with a 13-7 lead. West Carroll finished their matchup with a quarterback sack.
 
McKenzie
The Rebels took on McCracken County in their jamboree matchup winning 17-0. The first Rebel score came three plays into their first possession when Etijay Tharpe got loose for a 54-yard touchdown run with the extra point good by Zach Aird for a 7-0 lead. Tharpe scored the second touchdown later in the contest making it 14-0 with another Aird extra point. Aird capped off the scoring with a field goal for a 17-0 McKenzie contest.
 
In other Henry County jamboree contests, Paducah Tilghman blanked Jackson Northside 21-0, Henry County defeated Haywood County 21-13 and Dresden shut out McCracken County 21-0.
 
The regular season starts this Friday night with McKenzie traveling to Huntingdon, West Carroll hosting Bruceton and Gleason traveling to Fulton County.
