West Carroll Baseball Wins Two From Gleason

ATWOOD — West Carroll’s War Eagle Baseball celebrated Senior Day on Thursday evening, April 28, introducing their three senior players. The seniors were Jason Langston (22), Briggs Easley (8), and Hunter Lindsey (33) and were escorted by their parents. They also introduced the eighth grade players coming into the program next year and their parents.

The War Eagles finished the home side of their schedule with the doubleheader against the Gleason Bulldogs. The first game went four and a half innings with West Carroll winning 14-5.

The War Eagles took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning taking an 8-2 lead before the Bulldogs scored three in the second to make it an 8-5 contest. West Carroll scored five runs in the third inning and a final run in the fourth to put the game away 14-5. The War Eagles racked up nine hits in the game with two of them having multiple hits. Jose Martinez went 3-4 at the plate driving in three runs and scoring three runs. Jason Langston had two hits and drew a walk driving in a run and scoring three runs in the game.

Langston went four innings on the mound for the War Eagles allowing all five of Gleason’s runs and striking out five batters. Kyzer Crochet took the loss for Gleason giving up all 14 West Carroll runs and striking out five batters for the game.

The second game went four innings with the War Eagles pounding out 18 runs for the game. The first inning indicated a tight game with both teams scoring a pair of runs to tie 2-2 going to the second inning which was scoreless. It was the third inning when Gleason broke the tie with a run but the War Eagles exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 13-3 lead. West Carroll added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to reach the final 18-3 score.

West Carroll tallied ten hits for the game with Jason Langston and Conner Kothe getting multiple hits for the War Eagles. Langston went 4-4 at the plate to lead the hitting. The War Eagles had three players stealing at least two bases each.

Jose Martinez went to work on the mound for West Carroll allowing three hits and three runs over four innings while striking out nine batters.
