West Carroll School Board Approves Changes to COVID-19 Policy

Posted

The West Carroll School Board met Tuesday, October 19, for their monthly session with several items to discuss and vote on.

The board approved school director Preston Caldwell’s recommendation to change the school system’s COVID phase from phase 2 to phase 3. According to Caldwell, Phase 3 allows visitors to come to the school and allow student programs to occur with principal approval while still leaving some COVID protocols in place.

Three policy changes were approved on second reading. The first is a new policy which allows the school SRO officers to patrol within a mile of each school in the system. The second policy states corporal punishment will not be allowed in the West Carroll System. The last policy deals with excused and unexcused absences.

Mrs. Brittany Fowler presented the board with information about an E-rate application which is Federal money to help schools get new devices. West Carroll has approximately 500 Chromebooks that are nearing their expiration so the board was asked to approve the application for E-rate funds. The request was approved.

In other action, the board approved the new student handbooks for all of the schools and also approved the consent agenda which approved the field list trip list for the current school year along with accepting a resignation from Mrs. Jessica Baum. The financial reports for July, August, and September were approved along with the child nutrition report for that same period. They also approved compensation from the Summer Food Program.
