GEORGETOWN, Ky. (March 19, 2021) – The Bethel Wildcats lost for the first time on the season Friday falling 17-14 to the No. 19 Georgetown Tigers in Georgetown. The Wildcats fell to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the MSC. The Tigers improved to 4-1 and 4-1.

The match-up was the fourth of a seven-game season with all the games being MSC Bluegrass Division affairs.

After a scoreless first quarter, Bethel’s Davius Prather put the Wildcats on the board at the 14:50 mark of the second quarter with a 67-yard touchdown run. Rodrigo Campos nailed the point after to give the Wildcats the 7-0 lead.  GC’S Chris Cline kicked a late 35-yard field goal to make it 7-3 at the half.

The Tigers took the lead on a Zach Dampier 43-yard touchdown pass to Jack Johnson with 10:39 left in the third quarter to give Georgetown a 10-7 advantage.

After a Keyshawn Brummitt fumble recovery near midfield, the Wildcats scored a touchdown a play later on a 51-yard pass play from Jacob Murphree to Lucas Brown. After the PAT by Campos the Wildcats led 14-10 with 10:45 left in the game. The Tigers took the lead back at the 5:24 mark on a Dampier to Aaron Maggard 30-yard pass which gave the Tigers the 17-14 victory. Bethel had the ball near midfield but a Tiger interception helped Georgetown secure the win.

Georgetown outgained the Wildcats 157-131 in rushing yards. The Tigers had a 255-134 advantage in passing yards.

Prather had eight carries for 87 yards. Brown had three receptions for 68 yards. Jerwin Young led the Wildcats in total tackles with 11.

Coach Michael Jasper said, “First off my hat goes off to Coach Cronin and his entire program. My hat goes off to my team and staff as well. That was a hard-fought game and the ball didn't roll our way, but if we focus on the little things that won't even matter. I have to be better and make our guys better. We know where we are now for sure and we will find a way to get to where we need to be. I fully expect our young men to bring their best all week as we get ready for a tough Pikeville ball team.”
