McKENZIE (March 7) — Twenty-five McKenzie High School students were allowed to tour the Cachengo facility at the former hospital building in McKenzie. The students were invited to the facility by Cachengo CEO, Ash Young. Members of the Young family and technicians of Cachengo explained the technology company’s mission of providing high-end data storage systems to meet global demands for Edge Computing, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by replacing the over-use of single, large CPUs with several smaller ones, embedded in each drive to perform localized computing where the data actually sits. more
HUNTINGDON (January 18) — The contract of Dr. Jonathan Kee, director of schools, was extended by unanimous vote by the Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education on January 18. Dr. Kee’s contract now extends to June 30, 2025, after the one-year extension. more

HUNTINGDON (September 9) — The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fund-raising event was held Saturday after a three-year absence due to the COVID pandemic. The scaled-down event was a good start to reinvigorate the event that once raised significant funds for the eradication of cancer. more

McKENZIE (March 7) — During the Tuesday evening meeting of the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education board members agreed to add cross country to McKenzie High School’s slate of athletic programs. Faculty member Beth Mathis will serve as the coach. more
Michael Schaffer, a student at Tennessee College of Applied Technology-McKenzie, received a Skill Point Certificate in the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) 5-Axis Milling Programmer program during the 2023 SkillsUSA Championships. The CNC 5-Axis Milling Programmer is a cutting machine that is moved in five different directions and monitored by a numerical computer control rather than by hand. more
ATWOOD (September 7) — The West Carroll Special School District school board approved a $10 million budget for the 2024 fiscal year at their meeting Thursday, Sept. 7. This budget includes a 6.25 percent salary increase for all employees of the district. more
McKenzie (September 15) — McKenzie Fire and Rescue Department donated a 1988 Pierce pumper truck to the Carroll County Fire Department on Friday, September 15. more
NASHVILLE — County unemployment rates dropped in a majority of Tennessee’s counties in November, according to new data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Eighty-nine of the state’s 95 counties recorded lower rates for the month. more

DALLAS (December 28) — GasBuddy, a PDI company, today released its annual Fuel Price Outlook with some good news for drivers: expect lower gasoline and diesel prices in 2024. The outlook highlights key trends in gasoline and diesel prices, forecasting that, after two years of above average gas prices, 2024 will bring relief at the pump for consumers as several factors contribute to less of a pinch at the pump. GasBuddy expects the yearly national average will drop from $3.51 per gallon this year to $3.38 in 2024. more

HENDERSON (January 27) — Freed-Hardeman University has released the names of students who made the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the Fall 2022 semester. To be on the President’s List, a student must be full-time and have a 4.0 grade point average. Students on the Dean’s List have earned a minimum 3.4 grade point average for the semester. more
