The Carroll County Commission meets Monday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at the County Office Complex with eleven resolutions to consider along with three proclamations. Resolution 6-03-2023 is the county’s $30 million budget. Related to the budget resolution is Resolution 6-02-2023 setting the tax rate at $1.4131 on each $100 of taxable property, there is no tax increase for the 2023-24 fiscal year. Included in the proposed budget are non-profit organization contributions. The non-profits are part of Resolution 6-01-2023 for $58,000 to the following organizations: Rescue Squad $8,000; Gordon Browning Museum $5,000; McKenzie Memorial Library $6,000; Carl Perkins $25,000; TN Rehab Center $500; McKenzie Senior Citizens $200; Carroll County Shooting Sports Park $10,000; and the WRAP Organization $3,823. more
The City of McKenzie meets Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m. to approve the Fiscal Year Budget for 2023-24. The proposed budget is $5,494,866 with an anticipated revenue totaling 6,046,662 creating a surplus of $551,796. more
HUNTINGDON (May 31) — During the annual meeting of the Carroll County Audit Committee, members were made aware of findings provided by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office. While seven findings were presented no major infractions were noted. According to Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler, the majority of the finds were based on the fault of management through small oversights in internal control. more

HUNTINGDON — The County of Carroll’s tax rate is proposed to remain unchanged at $1.4131 per $100 of assessed value for the FY2023-24 budget. However, the county’s payrolls are increasing almost $1 million in the General Fund. more
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) hosted its second annual Tech Discovery Camp for rising eighth graders May 22-26 for Bruceton and Clarksburg students and May 30-June 2 for McKenzie students. The camp was introduced last summer as a way to introduce students to technical career options. more

TENNESSEE — The unemployment rate decreased in all 95 Tennessee counties during April. The Tennessee Labor Force Estimates indicate a growing labor force across Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties. Each of the three counties had a lower unemployment rate than the state rate. more
Members of the McKenzie American Legion, other veterans, and friends placed small American flags at the gravesites of veterans on Sunday, May 28. The flags were placed at the graves regardless of whether the veterans’ death was service related. more

HUNTINGDON (May 29) — The Town of Huntingdon hosted the 20th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday at Thomas Park on East Main Street in Huntingdon. The ceremony remembered those who died in military service to our country, as well as veterans and active military personnel. There was reserved seating for veterans and a red carnation for every veteran who registered at the table prior to the ceremony. more
McKENZIE (May 29) — Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, commemorated to honor the memory of the troops who never returned home from battle. The City of McKenzie hosted a Memorial Day ceremony Monday at 10 a.m. for citizens to honor and memorialize loved ones who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom. more
The Tennessee Department of Education released scores from the spring English/language arts (ELA) TCAP assessment Wednesday, May 25, revealing that more than half of Tennessee’s third-grade students are not meeting proficiency in the subject. While some area schools have higher proficiency percentages than the statewide average, McKenzie, Hollow-Rock/Bruceton, Milan and West Carroll special school districts have found their percentages below the state average. more
