McKenzie, Tenn. - A memorial service for Jerry Bob Cooper will be held in Colorado at a later date.

Mr. Cooper, 85, died at his residence on September 20, 2023. He was born December 20, 1937 in Madison Co., Missouri. He was the second child of Glen Dale Cooper and Mildred McGrew Cooper.

He lived with his grandparents on a farm while his parents worked in St. Louis at the factories to support the war effort. After the war, he moved to St. Louis, and sold newspapers after school for 5 cents a paper. After high school, he joined the Air Force, where he worked in supply and flew over the Arctic, checking for bomb testing. In 1960, he left the Air Force and upon returning home he decided to go to California for work.

He stopped in Denver to see friends and while eating in a restaurant, he saw a “lovely young woman”. He turned to his friend and said “I’m going to marry that girl” and he did. They were married April 27, 1963 and had three children. He worked various jobs - an engineer for the DRG Railroad, a volunteer firefighter with the Arvada Fire Department, but his favorite job was with his wife driving a truck for AFW trucking.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks since 1962, and enjoys hunting Elk with his sons and grandsons, sharing books with his daughter, and growing violets.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Meier Cooper of McKenzie, a daughter, Kelly (Curtis) Miller of Castle Rock, Colorado., two sons, Michael (Debbie) Cooper of Littleton, Colorado and Glenn (Janet) Cooper of McKenzie, nine grandchildren, Janeen (Eric) Allen, Jared (Shay) Cooper, Luke Miller, Elaine Cooper, Brad Miller, Jake (Michelle) Miller, Richard Cooper, Jazmyn (Ryan) Schardon, Beau (Kendall) Passmore and four great-grandchildren Cooper Allen, Alanna Miller, Cody Allen, Owen Schardon and Carter Passmore
