SHARON (October 1) — The Rebel golf teams again made school history Monday. Both the ladies and gentlemen will return to the state tournament for the second consecutive year as they each won the Region 7 Tournament.
The ladies were led by Maggie Glass, whose 78 earned her tournament medalist honors. Julie French added an 89, earning her a third place individual finish in a playoff and giving the team a total of 167 and a seven-stroke victory over Milan.
The gentlemen were led by Ben Austin and Johnathan Moore, who each shot 77. Logan Green’s 85 and Nathan Nanney’s 88 gave the team a 327 total and a 14-stroke win over Union City.
The gentlemen also had a playoff for tournament medalist that included Austin and Moore. Once it had concluded, Austin prevailed after five holes to claim the top individual honor, with Moore claiming third after the third playoff hole.
The ladies will carry a 46-8-2 record to the state tournament, while the gentlemen will go with a 63-5 record.
The tournament will take place at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester October 8-10, with the practice round on Monday and the two-day tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you see any of these players or Coach Smith, congratulate them on this historical season and wish them well next week as they represent our school and community as one of the top eight Small Division golf programs in both the ladies and gentlemen’s division in the state!
