Sharon Cunningham

OCEAN SPRINGS, MISS — Sharon Cunningham, 73. of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died September 30, 2023, in D”lberville, Miss. She was born December 26, 1949 in Paris, Tenn. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Visitation with the family is Saturday, October 14, 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 911 Porter Avenue, Ocean Springs Miss. Memorial services are October 14, 11 a.m.
Sharon graduated from Trezevant High School in Trezevant, Tenn. before attending the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she received her bachelor’s degree. After graduating, she attended Florida State University and obtained a master’s degree. Sharon taught Family and Consumer Sciences for 34 years in both Virginia and Florida. She was an FCCLA advisor for the Virginia FCCLA organization and an advisor for the Home Economic Association in Florida. Sharon won the National Award for Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year in 2001. In 2010, she retired from Broad Run High School in Loudoun County, Virginia and in April 2023, Sharon and her husband, William celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She enjoyed doing puzzles, sewing, bird watching, singing in the church choir, and working as the handbell choir director in her free time.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Buford Presson and Marguerite Barlowe Presson.
Survivors include her spouse, William David Cunningham; children, David (Crystal) Samuel Cunningham of Henderson, Nevada and Kelly (Dave) Cunningham Pitalo of Ocean Springs, Miss.; grandchildren, Hailey Rose Cunningham, Alex Blakley both of Henderson, Nevada and Madelyn Grace Pitalo of Ocean Springs, Miss.; siblings, Jane Alison Presson of Deltona, Florida and Louanne Presson Blackketter of McLemorseville, Tenn.; and her loving dog, Molly.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Friends are invited to visit one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sharon’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
