West Carroll Sweeps Big Sandy

ATWOOD (January 29) — West Carroll High School hosted Big Sandy Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. Both home teams jumped out to big leads early and cruised to victory. The Lady War Eagles won 70-39, while the War Eagles took the nightcap 81-42.

Prior to the games, West Carroll acknowledged the tragic death of former students Ashley Barlow, Dakota Cook and Caitlin Cook in a house fire early that morning.

The Lady War Eagles had a 27-14 lead after the opening frame, led by Macey Cunningham with eight points. Gracie Cunningham scored seven, and Amaya Thompson had five. Tatym Keymon had four points, Alyssa Butler had a pair, and Katie Holt hit a free throw.

Ashlyn Berry led Big Sandy with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers. Lydia Dykes scored four.

West Carroll added to the lead with a 9-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Holt with three points.

M. Cunningham, G. Cunningham and Amaya Thompson each added a pair. Dykes scored four for the Lady Red Devils, and Courtney Steinbuck had a pair. At the half, the Lady War Eagles led 36-20.

Big Sandy cut a point off of the deficit with a 16-15 edge in the third, led by Berry with a dozen, including three-pointer. Steinbuck and Dykes each added a pair. M. Cunningham led West Carroll with nine points, including a three-pointer.

Holt, G. Cunningham and Keymon each added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady War Eagles led 51-36.

West Carroll capped the win with a 19-3 tilt in the fourth, led by M. Cunningham and Butler with six points each. Keymon, Octavia Jones and Jayden Rader each had a pair, and Noelle Roberts hit a free throw. Lauren Flowers hit a three-pointer for Big Sandy.

Lady War Eagle Macey Cunningham led all scorers with 25 points, including a three-pointer. Gracie Cunningham scored eleven points.

Ashlyn Berry led Big Sandy with 22 points, including a trio of threes. Lydia Dykes scored ten points.

War Eagles 81, Red Devils 42

West Carroll stormed out to a 23-3 lead after the first frame, led by Luke Moore with seven points, including a three-pointer. Josh Clark scored five, Aaron Heckert and Zach Heckert each had four, and Jeremiah Bryant hit a three. Red Devil Chase Barcio hit a three-pointer.

The War Eagles had a 20-18 edge in the second quarter, led by Jalen Anglin with nine points. A. Heckert scored six points. Bryant and Jack Barrow each had a pair, and Z. Heckert hit a free throw.

Red Devils Kolton Christopher and Garrett Metcalf each scored six, Christopher with a three-pointer. Michael Davis, Brandon Berry and Jaylen Christopher each had a pair. At the half, West Carroll led 43-21.

West Carroll had a 22-17 advantage in the third, led by Dawson Hardwick with six points on a pair of threes. A. Heckert scored five, and Moore had four points. Z. Heckert had three points, and Bryant and Colton Hart each had a pair.

Metcalf led Big Sandy with six, and K. Christopher scored five with a three-pointer. Davis had four points, and J. Christopher added a pair. Heading into the final frame, the War Eagles led 65-38.

The War Eagles punctuated the victory with a 16-4 tilt in the fourth, led by Tyson Keymon with five points, including a three. Jed Robinson scored four, and Dallas Montgomery hit a three-pointer.

Xander Moon and Peyton Stratton each had a pair. J. Christopher scored three points for the Red Devils, and Jonathan Stockdale hit a free throw.

War Eagle Aaron Heckert led all scorers with 15 points. Luke Moore scored eleven with a three-pointer.

Garrett Metcalf led Big Sandy with 12 points. Kolton Christopher scored eleven with a pair of threes.
