McKENZIE — The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education will meet Tuesday, October 6, at 5:30 p.m. in the MSSD Board Room. Among the items on the tentative agenda, the board will consider appointing a Social Studies Textbook Committee and approving district budget amendments. Board members will consider a FaciliServ report concerning bleacher updates at the football field.

McKENZIE (September 24) — McKenzie High School volleyball suffered a 3-0 loss to Henry County at home Thursday, dropping the Lady Rebels to 9-7 overall while remaining 8-2 in district play.

Domestic Assault — Timothy L. Gilbert, Everett Street, McKenzie, was charged with Domestic Assault on September 26. Officer Jayden Rembert was dispatched to the residence, where Gilbert and a female had first had a verbal altercation and then Gilbert reportedly assaulted her. A witness corroborated the victim’s statement. Mr. Gilbert was arrested and placed under a $2,500 bond.

McKENZIE — Members of the McKenzie Garden Club gathered for their monthly meeting on Friday, September 25, at 1 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. President Brenda Smith called the meeting to order, following an inspirational devotional and prayer delivered by Glynda Rich. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments provided by hostesses Marsha French and Linda Howton. Roll call was answered by 15 members.

McKENZIE — Abbi Ghyers was crowned the 2026 McKenzie High School Football Home-coming Queen on Friday evening during pregame ceremonies at Rebel Stadium. The coronation highlighted a multi-day celebration as MHS students, faculty, alumni, and community members gathered for the annual homecoming game and the MHS Alumni Decades Reunion.

JACKSON (September 22) — McKenzie High School volleyball picked up another district victory Tuesday, defeating Madison 3-1 on the road to improve to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in district play. The Lady Rebels opened the match with a 25-21 victory before Madison battled back in the second set. McKenzie lost the second set 27-25. McKenzie responded with a dominant 25-11 victory in the third set and closed out the match 25-19 in the fourth.

Friday’s festivities began at 8 a.m. with the annual MHSAA Golf Tournament at Carroll Lake Golf Club. Downtown McKenzie was the location of the annual Homecoming Parade at 12:30 p.m. Retired educators Larry Joe and Tiffany Smith served as grand marshals, leading the parade route along Cedar Street to Stonewall past McKenzie Middle School and McKenzie Elementary School. The parade featured student class entries, local group participants, and the Marching Rebel Band.
