Huntingdon Middle School Fillies Win State Championship

MURFREESBORO (February 1) — The Huntingdon Middle School Fillies completed a trifecta for Huntingdon Middle School Saturday at Middle Tennessee Christian School as they defeated Rickman 72-39 to win their first-ever state championship.

McKENZIE (January 20) — McKenzie High School hosted McEwen Monday for a pair of district basketball contests. The fifth-ranked Warriorettes rode an early lead to a 75-51 win. The Rebels made a late rally, pulling within two points more than once before falling to the Warriors, 72-64.
McKENZIE (January 14) — McKenzie High School basketball began district play Tuesday, hosting Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central.
McKENZIE (January 6) — McKenzie High School hosted Bradford Monday for a pair of basketball contests and coasted to a pair of victories. The Lady Rebels made their mark in a lopsided third quarter for a 66-34 win. The Rebels pulled away in the second quarter en route to a 76-51 victory.

Rebels Fall to Chargers

MARTIN (December 16) — The McKenzie High School Rebels traveled Monday to face Westview in a boys-only night of basketball. The Chargers jumped out to a big lead early and extended it in the third quarter en route to a 73-47 win.

Stokes, Kelley Honored for Career Milestones

HUNTINGDON (January 17) — Following the Fillies’ victory over Camden Friday, two senior players were recognized for career milestones.

CLARKSBURG (January 7) — Clarksburg High School hosted Huntingdon Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. The Fillies jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 76-29 win. The Rockets kept it close in the first half, but the Mustangs pulled away in the third quarter en route to an 82-39 victory.
HUNTINGDON (December 27-30) — Huntingdon High School hosted its annual Point Guard Club Coca-Cola Classic with eight boys teams participating in three days of tournament action.

State Settles with NCAA for Student-Athletes

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced that a bipartisan coalition of states led by Tennessee has reached a settlement in principle in its lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).

Cats Stun Freed-Hardmen

McKENZIE — Bethel lost an ardent supporter with the passing of Bethel Hall-of-Famer Shorty Akers earlier in the week. Shorty was honored before both games versus Freed-Hardeman Saturday. One has to know the Wildcats, who attended the Akers funeral on Friday played with even more passion in memory of their friend.

McKenzie Sweeps Houston County

ERIN (January 24) —- McKenzie traveled to Houston County High School Friday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Rebels led throughout and held off a late Lady Irish rally for a 58-54 win. The Rebels trailed at the half but dominated down the stretch for a 76-54 victory.

Huntingdon High Celebrates Stellar Football Season

HUNTINGDON (December 16) — Players, coaches, cheerleaders, families and other supporters gathered at Huntingdon Church of Christ Monday to celebrate another phenomenal football season by the Huntingdon High School Mustangs.

Gleason Splits with Bradford

GLEASON (December 20) — Gleason High School hosted Bradford Friday for a pair of down-to-the-wire basketball contests. The Lady Bulldogs went back-and-forth until the final minutes, pulling ahead for a 45-37 win. The Red Devils led most of the game but had to hold off a vigorous Gleason rally in the fourth to claim a 44-41 victory.

HUNTINGDON (December 28) — Huntingdon Middle School hosted its annual Christmas tournament with three girls teams competing in a round-robin format Saturday.

HUNTINGDON (December 27-28) — Huntingdon Middle School hosted its annual Christmas tournament with four boys teams competing in a bracket format on Friday and Saturday.

McKENZIE (December 20) — After six seasons as head coach of the Bethel University Football program, Coach Michael Jasper (44-20) has announced he is departing the university to become the head coach at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. The Hatters are a NCAA Division I program competing in the Pioneer League.
