From the Apr 23, 2024 e-Edition
Carroll County 4-Her, Paige Costello, 16, completed the Tennessee Master Horse program this spring. According to the UT Horse website, the driving force behind the Tennessee Master Horse Program (TMHP) is to raise the level of education and improve overall success of horse owners and producers within the state. Additionally, by improving management practices and providing the opportunity for intellectual growth, equine producers and business owners can continue to expand this vital portion of Tennessee agriculture. By providing science-based, objective information, families, youth, and the community can generate or continue to build upon their existing knowledge base and ensure success of the equine industry for years to come.
Paige completed classes focused on responsible horse ownership, nutrition, pasture management, diseases, vaccines, parasites, hoof care, equine economics, and other topics. In addition to the UT Master Horse Program, Paige is a state finalist in the Tennessee 4-H horse project where she will interview and compete for college scholarships at 4-H Round Up this summer.
